Another Choosing-Game

Postby Max Smily » Tue Apr 20, 2004 12:36 pm

Imagine: You want to impress a special person with the music of yello. The opinion of this person is very important for you.

You want that this person see the music of yello with the same eyes as you - your way of understanding.

You may select 3 titles, every yello-album or single is allowed. Which three you would choose?

(Mayby you like only the instrumentals and choose "Sweet Thunder", "L'hotel" and "Poom Shanka"? Or you love only the bestsellers like "Oh Yeah", "The Race" and "Jingle Bells"?)

I think one of the songs should be humorous. Humor is a big part of YELLO?!

One(!) Song could be enough to "hook" the targeted person!

Yello is my absolutely favorite music. I love(!) all(!) they stuff. Sometimes I want to share this ingenious music with somebody, but i'm afraid he/she could not understand the magic of yello.

I think, this three songs must convince everyone:

1. She's got a gun (Live at the Palladium)
(I think, this song also contains the rhythm of "Lost Again" and "Desire" - quasi* three in one)

2. Point Blank
(so jazzy, so cool yello-like sound art. It stands for all these cool instrumental sound-creations from Boris)

3. Night Train
(Dieters voice in a very very cool Song - I love and hate this Song, because I can't catch it. Everytime i listen to it, it ends before I'm ready to absorb the sound. Too short. I dont hate it, I love it. Must hear it at least three times for satisfaction.)

* Im sitting here with my online-dictionary to write this text, because my english is really bad. In search of the translation of "quasi" i notice this word is the same in german and english. Cool.

Live at the Roxy

(oh, you need two more) [really, after this?]

OK,

The Ocean Club

Blender

When I first met my wife, I played her some Yello. She hadn't heard anything other than Oh Yeah, but was hooked. She was intoxicated and asked me to make a tape. Remember those days when you made tapes for the one you love? I played her the entire library I had, albums, 12"s cd's and the like and told her to pick her faves. This is what she got:
oh darn, she took the tape with her, I'll have to add the list soon. (sorry to get you all excited)

Here it is:

Lost Again, Santiago, On the Run, Tied Up (version?), Oh Yeah! Ferris Beuler's mix, Jungle Bill, Desire (12"), Swing, Whose Gone?, Dr. van Steiner, Domingo, Sometimes (one of my faves), Call It Love, Drive/Driven, Pinball Cha Cha, Night Flanger, Rubberbandman, Blazing Saddles (latino house mix), Claud El Habib, The Race, Bostitch, and Rock Stop.

She couldn't pick just three either!

You are absolutely right! My favourite Yello songs often change....I just like them all. However, Night Train is always fantastic...must be among the top 3 for me! :D

Hard, hard, hard...

1 / The Race - to show to the person that he/she ever heard about Yello but stay ignorant how this group is amazing  )
2 / :!: Bostich - maybe to speak about the evolution of the group and the history too
3 / Beyond Mirrors - for the spectacular sounds in it, like the final firework...

... then playing all the other

Do you mean "On Track" from "Eccentrix Remixes"?
